Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) - At the 2018 Skytrax Awards in London, which is equivalent to the Oscars in the aviation industry, Singapore Airlines was named the world's best airline, In 2008. Singapore Airlines, which ranked first in the list last year, moved to second place this year. Qatar Airways, which took the list in 2011, 2012, 2015 and 2017, has won the Best Business Award, Best Airline in the Middle East and Best Business Class Seat. Singapore's award for the world's best airline marks the return of Asian carriers, which have long competed with their counterparts from the Middle East for excellence since Skytrax, the UK, launched its awards in 2001. The rest of the top ten companies were a familiar and prestigious group dominated by Asia and the Middle East, followed by Japan's first Nippon Air, followed by Emirates in fourth place, Taiwan in fifth place, and "Cathay Pacific" in sixth place. Lufthansa was the only European carrier in the top ten, ranking seventh. Followed by China's Hainan Air Lines in eighth place, Indonesia's Garuda Indonesia and Thailand's Thai Airways in ninth and tenth place. Notably, US airlines have failed to win any awards this year.
